Why We Built It
The Australian stock market is vast — over 1,500 listed companies spanning every sector imaginable, from blue-chip banks and mining giants to emerging biotech and fintech innovators. For retail traders and investors, finding the right stocks at the right time feels impossible. Professional tools that deliver this capability? They cost hundreds or thousands of dollars per month.
Market Flow exists to close that gap.
We built a platform where any Australian — whether you're a seasoned trader or investing your first dollar — can open a browser, see exactly what the market is doing right now, and discover meaningful trading and investment signals. No finance degree required. No Bloomberg terminal needed. Just fast, clear, actionable intelligence about the ASX.
What Market Flow Provides
Home Page Market Overview
Your entry point to everything happening on the ASX. The home page delivers a complete snapshot of market activity across all cap tiers:
- Activity Heatmap — Visual treemap of the most active ASX stocks by value traded. Size = traded value; colour = price direction. Filter by market cap tier or sector to focus your research.
- Featured Stock — The day's top active gainer, highlighted with price, volume, market cap, 52-week range, and recent ASX announcements.
- Top Active Gainers Table — Stocks trading above $300K in value, sorted by daily gain. Price, change %, value traded, and market cap at a glance.
- Most Active by Market Cap — Four paginated tables (Large, Mid, Small, Micro cap) showing the most traded stocks within each size group, sorted by change percentage.
No login required. No paywalls. Open the site and see the entire market.
Market Sidebar
A persistent right-hand panel visible across the platform provides a live snapshot of the session at a glance:
- Price-Sensitive Announcements — A near real-time feed of ASX codes that have lodged price-sensitive announcements on the current or last trading date. Each entry shows the ticker (colour-coded green for gains, red for losses), change %, and the announcement headline with a direct link to the ASX document. Data is sourced from the ASX and cross-referenced against the day's active movers.
- Market Indices — Near real-time pricing and change % for ASX 200, All Ordinaries, ASX 300, and ASX 50.
- Day Gainers / Day Losers — A tabbed, paginated panel showing the session's top gaining and losing stocks filtered by minimum value traded. Switch between gainers and losers in a single panel, with independent pagination per tab.
Market Dashboards
Four specialised macro dashboards give you a structured view of the entire ASX.
Market Health & Breadth The macro pulse of the ASX. Tracks advancers vs decliners, volume breadth, weighted market strength, cap-tier participation, sector heatmap, and change distribution. Tells you whether the market is strengthening or weakening — and whether that strength is broad-based or concentrated in a handful of stocks.
Market Cap Structure Understand how different size groups are behaving. Includes cap-tier strength meters, average performance per tier, value traded distribution, and a top 10 leaderboard by market cap. Instantly see whether large caps are leading, whether small caps are catching a bid, and which tier is carrying the market.
Momentum & Breakout Spot emerging trends and early breakout setups. Covers 1-day and 5-day momentum meters across all cap tiers, relative volume spikes, breakout candidates testing 20-day highs, and a price-change vs volume scatter showing where conviction is strongest. Designed to surface moves before they become crowded.
Predictive & Pattern Detect accumulation and distribution pressure, trend persistence, and volume-confirmed momentum signals. Accumulation flags stocks rising with elevated volume; distribution identifies selling under heavy volume. The trend persistence scatter maps 1-day vs 5-day alignment, while the volume-weighted momentum chart ranks the strongest conviction moves across each cap tier.
The Price Action Screener
Scan all 1,500+ ASX-listed stocks and surface only those that match your exact setup. Results update in near real-time — adjust a filter and the list narrows instantly.
Technical filters:
- Trend — MA alignment signal based on MA20 > MA50 > MA100 stacking. Uptrend, Downtrend, or Neutral.
- RSI (14) — Filter by zone: Bearish (below 30), Neutral (30–50), Elevated (50–70), or Bullish (above 70).
- Moving Averages (20, 50, 100-day) — Price position above or below each key moving average across multiple timeframes.
- Momentum — Detect accelerating buying or selling pressure, from Strong Bullish to Strong Bearish.
- Breakout — Find stocks breaking above resistance or 52-week highs, scored from Major to Weak.
- Volume Anomaly — Confirm institutional participation via Major, Moderate, or Mild volume spikes.
Every result row shows: near real-time price, daily change, all technical signals, RSI value, and MA signals — scannable, actionable, ready to trade.
Trading Setups
Structured, rules-based trade ideas for the ASX — each setup defines exactly what to look for, when to enter, where to place your stop, and what target to aim for. Every candidate is scanned and tracked automatically, with prices updated every hour during ASX market hours.
Trend Pullback to Moving Average Identifies ASX stocks on the daily timeframe in a confirmed uptrend (MA20 > MA50 > MA100) that retrace to their MA20 or MA50 and form a bullish reversal candle (Hammer, Engulfing, or Doji) closing above the prior candle's close — with RSI above 50 and expanding volume confirming buyers are stepping in. Every candidate is automatically tracked with:
- Entry — Close of the reversal candle at the moving average (must close above prior candle close)
- Stop — −5% below entry, below the reversal candle low
- Target — +15% above entry, a 3:1 risk-to-reward ratio
Each setup resolves as a Winner or Invalidated — giving you a transparent, trackable performance record over time.
Consolidation Breakout Identifies ASX stocks where MA20 is flat and price has been anchored near MA50 via sub-period analysis (the 20-day window is split into four 5-day sub-periods — the spread across all four sub-period averages must be ≤ 5% confirming MA20 is flat, each sub-period average must be within 5% of the current MA50 confirming price has stayed anchored near MA50, and MA20 must be within 5% of MA50 today), daily range has contracted below 1.5× ATR(10), RSI is coiled in the 50–60 neutral zone, and volume is drying up — the stock is coiling, not trending. When a strong green candle breaks out above the 10-day high and MA50 on 1.5× above-average volume with RSI surging to 65+, the trade triggers. Every confirmed breakout is automatically tracked with:
- Entry — Close of the breakout candle above the 10-day high
- Stop — Below the breakout candle low or MA50 (whichever is lower), set at entry
- Exit — Trailing MA50: a bearish candle closing below the rising MA50 exits the trade
Each setup resolves as a Winner (trailing MA50 exit with positive P&L) or Invalidated (hard stop or trailing MA50 exit with loss).
Trading Lab
Practice and test your trading skills using real ASX data — with no real money at risk.
Trading Grounds A fast-paced trading simulation game built on real ASX market data. Each game randomly selects six live ASX stocks and loads up to two years of actual daily price history. One full year of candles is shown upfront as context — then the following year streams candle-by-candle, every two seconds, so you can read evolving price action in real time exactly as it happened. Go long or short on each stock and close whenever you like. When the final candle plays out, the round auto-closes and the next stock loads — no button required. Your P&L compounds across all six rounds. Starting capital is $10,000 virtual.
- No indicators until you enable them — learn to read raw price action first
- Toggle MA 20, MA 50, MA 100, RSI, MACD, and Bollinger Bands at any time during the session
- Each round shows the ASX ticker so you know exactly which company you traded
- Leaderboard tracks trader name, final balance, gain %, and a full round-by-round breakdown — ticker, direction (Long/Short), entry price, exit price, and P&L for every trade
ASX Shares Backtesting Replay real ASX historical price data at your own pace and test your trade decisions against actual market conditions. Choose any listed stock, select a start date, and watch candles stream forward from that point — exactly as they happened. Enter long or short at any candle, close whenever you decide, and your P&L is tracked in real time.
- Full daily OHLCV history fetched from Yahoo Finance — up to 30 years of sessions per stock
- Adjustable playback speed: 1×, 2×, 5×, or 10× — pause at any point to think before acting
- Same indicator suite as Trading Grounds: MA 20/50/100, RSI, MACD, Bollinger Bands
- Session stats (balance, P&L %, wins, losses) and a full trade history panel with entry/exit prices and dates
- No data is stored — everything lives in browser state and resets when you start a new session
Why it matters: Backtesting on real data answers a question that paper trading on random charts cannot — would my strategy have worked on this specific stock, during this specific period? Whether you are testing a pullback entry on BHP, a breakout on a small-cap miner, or simply learning to read ASX candlestick patterns, the backtester gives you a structured, zero-risk environment to find out.
